The guild holds competitions for guild members in April and November each year, with trophies for weaving, spinning and dyeing, celebrating the skills our members.
NFWSD Guild Competition 2025

Members may enter more than one item in each class
WEAVING
Andrews cup for Weaving – An award for a beginner weaver or for those who have never won an award for weaving before.
A length of woven cloth minimum 50cm (state intended use) or finished item.
Burford Trophy – open to all
A woven length of cloth or completed item using a given weave pattern
State the weave pattern, intended use, fibre used, reasons for choices
SPINNING
Andrews cup for Spinning – An award for a beginner spinner or for those who have never won an award for spinning before.
A skein made from any fibre
New Forest Guild Cup – open to all
A small item knitted or crocheted from hand spun yarn.
For example: gloves, hat, cushion cover, bag, baby clothing, scarf, mittens, shawl
DYEING
Greyfriars Plate
A skein of yarn, piece of cloth or finished item hand dyed with natural materials. Does not need to be hand spun or hand woven.
Please state mordant, modifiers and dye/s used including whether fresh plant material, dried, powdered etc.
